The Kenyan Wild West where Camels, goats, and sickly looking cows can cost you a life

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 15 – Cattle raiders shot dead 11 villagers in Isiolo Sunday, the latest in a string of violent incidents caused by drought, the local member of parliament said.

“The 11 people were killed when rustlers stormed a village in Kisima area early this morning,” Mohammed Kuti, MP for Isiolo North, told reporters in Nairobi, adding that the incident was a revenge attack.

Police spokesman Erick Kiraithe said special units had been sent to the area to prevent the cycle of tit-for-tat attacks from spiralling further.

Kenya has been hit by one of its worst droughts in recent history this year, fuelling competition between rival clans for access to pasture and watering points

.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, at least 58 people have been killed in cattle rustling incidents since June.
